Introduction
Barbeque food has been a very popular food in America. It also has a very
interesting history. Barbeque has evolved from the first record of it. It’s origins
are from a very long time ago. It was recorded on a island outside of America.
Today it has been brought to America and is now very popular and very good.
Chapter 1
The tradition of cooking meat low and slow over an indirect flame is the true
definition of Barbecue. Where did this tradition come from one may ask
themselves? Well, it has a history that traces back to the south. In that are
anywhere between the Atlantic to the Gulf and are bordered by Texas and Kansas
City is considered the "barbecue belt." However, Christopher Columbus met a
tribe when he sailed to an island called Hispaniola.
Chapter 2
The tribe cooked their meat over an indirect flame similar to how you cook
barbecue. They called this method barbacoa. Geography close to what is today's
Tupelo, Mississippi, the Chicksaw tribe cooked pork over the barbacoa. This way
of cooking began to spread. Now it is used today by many restaurants. It has
grown into a popular type of cooking.
Chapter 3
There are different types of barbeque styles of cooking. These styles are named
after the region they were made. There is Texas, Tennessee, North Carolina, and
Kansas City styles fo barbeque. All vary in different ways depending on the food
they cook, seasonings, etc. They all consist of their own unique taste.
Chapter 4
The Memphis style consists of mostly pulled pork-shoulder is sweet tomato based
sauce. North Carolina has a different way of doing things; however, they smoke a
whole hog and use a vinegar-based sauce on it. Kansas uses smoked ribs
seasoned with a dry rub. Texas is known for its mesquite-grilled “cowboy-style”
brisket.
Conclusion
Barbeque is very important to today’s culture in the south. It has also become a
popularity in other places than the south. The history of it is almost as great as
the food itself. It’s history origins from a long time ago. The fact that from that
long ago to, today that it is this popular is truly amazing.
